Capturing fingerprints
Capturing fingerprints with PC
- Connect the fingerprint reader with a USB cable to your computer.
- Go to Persons view, bring up the correct persons information from the list and press Edit Fingerprints.

- If your computer does not have the Deltabit Identification software installed, the program will suggest installation. In this case, click the Install button and install the fingerprint software first.
- After installing the software you downloaded, click on the desired fingertip.
- User places the fingerbeing captured on the scanner so that the USB cord is pointing away from the user and the finger covers as much of the scanning area as possible. The finger should touch the metal surface on the leading edge of the scanning area.
- The finger should be placed parallel to the scanner surface, not fingertip first.
- Do not move or lift your finger while it is being scanned.
- The finger should be clean and not wet.
- If the scanner does not detect the finger on the sensor usually that means that the skin is too dry. A light breath on the skin just before placing the finger on the reader helps if this is the case.
- When a green circle appears in Persons view on the fingertip, the fingerprint has been read. Save the data and save changes in the main view as well.
Capturing fingerprints with a Deltabit work time terminal
- Tap the gear icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Identify yourself normally with your fingerprint, RFID tag or code.
- A system view will open on the screen. Tap the Fingerprint registration button in the middle. To capture fingerprints you must have Full Rights to the system. The button is not active if you don't have the correct rights enabled.
- Select the person whose fingerprints you want to capture.
- Select the fingerprint you want to add.
- Place the finger you want to capture on the sensor so that it touches the metal part at the bottom of the reader.
- When the terminal says Finger registered!, you can lift the finger from the sensor.
- Remember to press save.
Using the fingerprint reader
Our fingers are unique and recognition sensitivity varies a lot from person to person. Detection is also affected by external conditions, most importantly air temperature.
Dryness of the skin also has a great impact on recognition. Dry skin is harder to identify. This becomes more problematic in the winter, when the conditions are dryer.
If you're having trouble with identification, it's a good idea to try the following:
- Resave your fingerprints on your computer so that they appear as dark as possible in the image displayed during capturing. If the picture looks pale, ask the person to take a breath on the finger to lightly moisturize the skin. It is important that the fingerprint stored is as good as possible, because later all fingerprints will be compared with it.
- If the work time terminal shows the message "Not recognized", lift your finger, breathe on it lightly and try again.
- If the terminal does not react to the finger at all, it probably means that the metal frame that senses life has not accepted the finger. Also in this case it is worth breathing on the finger and trying again.
- Fingerprint recognition will not work if the finger is too wet. The reason is that water isolates the fingerprint from the identification membrane. Therefore, e.g. after washing your hands you should dry your hands thoroughly.
If you have people who don't have a fingerprint, you can give them a personal numeric code or keychain RFID tag that they can use to identify themselves on the terminal. These are created in Persons view.
